Breakfast Rice




1 hour cooking time
makes about three cups

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla


Combine all the ingredients but vanilla in a saucepan and cook covered for about an hour, being sure to turn down the heat as the mixture comes to a boil so that the mixture will be just barely boiling. (Otherwise it will boil over and you will be very unhappy.) Stir occasionally and remove from heat while rice is still moist and sticky, but no liquid remains on the bottom of the saucepan. Add vanilla and allow to stand covered for about ten minutes before serving.

Typically served hot with milk, sugar, and cinnamon on top.
